EOIVC 2026 Repertoire

All individuals who wish to be considered for entry into the EOIVC 2026 must be 18 years of age at the time of their submission to the competition, and may not be more than 30 years of age by the conclusion of the competition, on January 18, 2026. The repertoire for the entire competition is below and should be read very carefully.

 

Specifically for the preliminary round, which will open May 1, 2025 and close September 12, 2025, applicants are required to submit a video link via Acceptd that meets the following requirements: Each excerpt must be recorded in a single, continuous take with no titles, fadeouts or video transitions. Movements may be recorded separately however they must be edited together into a single video. Applicants may only submit one video and must be clearly visible and unobstructed. Video recording must be made within no more than 12 months of submission. Video captured via video camera, cell phone or webcam is acceptable.

Submissions that do not include the complete repertoire requirements will not be considered.  Any questions should be emailed to jarbetter@elmaroliveiraivc.org

I: QUALIFYING ROUND (submitted via one video link via Acceptd): All applicants are required to play work(s) from A, B, C, and D, as outlined in each section, from memory. Please read the instructions for each section carefully.

 

(A)   J. S. Bach: Select ONE of the six unaccompanied pieces below from memory, (to be performed without repeats except where noted):​

  1. Adagio and Fuga from the Sonata No. 1 in G minor, BWV 1001

  2. Allemanda and Double, Corrente and Double from the Partita No. 1 in B minor, BWV 1002 (all repeats required)

  3. Grave and Fuga from the Sonata No. 2 in A minor, BWV 1003

  4. Ciaccona from the Partita No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004

  5. Adagio and Fuga from the Sonata No. 3 in C major, BWV 1005

  6. Preludio, Loure, Gavotte en Rondeau, Menuet I. II. from the Partita No. 3 in E major, BWV 1006 (all repeats required)

 

(B)   Nicolo Paganini: Any TWO Caprices from the Unaccompanied Violin Caprices, Op. 1 from memory. Please note: All repeats should be taken.

 

(C) One of the following works to be performed from memory:

  1. A. Bazzini: La ronde des lutins, Op. 25

  2. F. Kreisler:Tambourin chinois

  3. M. Ravel : Tzigane

  4. J. Suk: Un Poco Triste and Burlesque (**BOTH the 3rd and 4th Movements**)

  5. C. Saint-Saëns: Havanaise, Op. 83

  6. C. Saint-Saëns: Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, Op. 28

  7. P. de Sarasate: Caprice basque, Op. 24

  8. K. Szymanowski: Nocturne and Tarantella, Op. 28

  9. H. Vieuxtemps: Rondino

  10. F. Waxman: Carmen Fantasy (after Bizet)

  11. H. Wieniawski: Polonaise brillante, in A major, Op. 21

  12. H. Wieniawski: Scherzo-Tarantelle, Op. 16

 

(D) The first movement only of one of the following Concerti listed below from memory with Cadenza performed with piano ONLY; Cuts in the piano accompaniment are acceptable. Videos submitted with orchestra accompaniment will be disqualified.​

  2. W. A. Mozart—Violin Concerto No. 1 in B-flat major, K. 207

  3. W. A. Mozart—Violin Concerto No. 2 in D major, K. 211

II: PRELIMINARY ROUND (20 Competitors) The 20 Preliminary Round Competitors will be required to perform selections from A, B, D (as outlined in the Qualifying Round) & E (below). All selections must be performed from memory unless otherwise specified. An EOIVC Pianist will be provided; Preliminary Round Competitors may bring their own Pianist at their own expense. 

 

(E) The 2026 Commissioned Work by Melinda Wagner will be sent to each Competitor at least six weeks prior to the Competition. Performing from memory is optional but not required.

 

III: SEMI-FINAL ROUND (8 Competitors): The 8 Semi-Finalists will be required to perform one selection from A, B, and C (below). Selections from B and C MUST be performed from memory.

 

(A) One of the following sonatas for violin and piano in its entirety. Performing from memory is optional but not required.

  1. Ludwig van Beethoven Sonata in C minor, Op 30 No. 2

  2. Ludwig van Beethoven Sonata No. 9 in A major, Op. 47

  9. Sergei Prokofiev Sonata No. 2 in D major, Op. 94a
